I got all the cozy Autumn vibes from my recent workshop all about Seasonal Self-Care as part of Kerry’s Mental Health & Wellbeing Festival 2022.
It got lovely feedback, y'all are loving the coziness!
Coziness is "Teolaí" as gaeilge. Isn't that just a lovely word to say - teo-leee 😍
Its more commonly known as the scandinavian concept of Hygge, pronounced “who-ga,” the word is said to have no direct translation in English, though “cozy” comes close. Journalist Helen Russell, defines it as “taking pleasure in the presence of gentle, soothing things,” like a freshly brewed cup of coffee and wool socks.
For me it's about embracing autumn and winter coziness so as to ease feeling blue about the darker days.
I thought it might be nice to share my top five cozy things to do right now that are helping me enjoy this season.
1. Cozy up your home - candles (I got a pumpkin spiced one today 😍) , soft lamps, light the fire and curl up in a soft blanket.
2. Watch something autumnal - I'm loving The Good Witch on Netflix, it's like Halloween meets the Gilmore Girls!
3. Home cooking, make the most of the oven when it's on and roast veggies, bake bread or make your own granola and fill the house with the scent of cinnamon, spice and all things nice (I'm sharing my recipe this week so be sure to sign up for my newsletter on this very website if you'd like it!)
4. I LOVE dressing up all cozy and warm and going for a walk in the cool air. Keep your eyes peeled for wild foods like haws, crab apples and I found wild mint today and a stash of sloes, hurrah for sloe gin! It'll be ready in a few months. How will I wait that long?!
5. Do something lovely for yourself each day. No matter how small. Today I began listening to "Ghost in my Throat" by Doireann Ní Ghríofa its amazing, I'm hooked! And I've plotted in some lovely things in my diary such as Ballybunion Community Market on 23rd Oct. These little intentional things keep me going, keep me feeling positive.
So how about you? What gives you teolaí / hygge vibes? Hit me up in the comments below!
